Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 296

5.

She pushes through the mists looking for them, and suddenly they’re there, in front of her. She screams at them, tells them to stop, but they don’t listen, and then she’s between them and they both look at her but they don’t see her, they don’t care.

She doesn’t make a sound as she feels the blade push into her and, actually, she tries to move away, tries to save herself. But for some reason, she can’t move, and she feels herself falling. Arthur catches her, but at this point it doesn’t matter.

She’s already gone.

4.

It’s just a raiding party but, then again, she’s just a woman, and even the king’s sister, of Avalon, isn’t a match for a whole group of Saxons on her own.

3.

The fey don’t generally die. That’s just the way it is. It’s hard for them to have children, but it’s hard for them to die. But they fey have been contaminated with mortal blood—that’s what comes of changelings—and that’s what happens to her.

She is of the fey, but she can die.

2.

One day, she just snaps. She needs to know and she doesn’t care any more. So she leaves Camelot, leaves her brother to fend for himself, and goes out into the wild, searching for herself.

The knight swears he thought she was another man, and in the dark like that, in the forest, when you’re not answered, you strike first, ask questions later.

He puts himself in exile.

1.

She didn’t think of herself as the mother type. That’s why she asked her sister to raise the child in the first place. That, and other things. But when the time comes, she has no time to think. Take me instead, she says, and then she’s gone.
